It All Had to Start Somewhere
52" H x 43" W cotton fabrics, "feathers" machine reverse appliqué, piecing and quilting

The design of this quilt is inspired by the log cabin/pineapple type of traditional block, that spirals out from a center. The center diamond references bird feathers native to Virginia, a reminder of who was here first. I chose the primary colors to represent the "primary" settlement at Jamestown in 1607. The red and blue fabrics represent fire and water -- conflicts between the First Nations and the colonists.

This quilt was juried into "New Art from an American Tradition", a Studio Art Quilt Associates exhibit, which celebrates the 400th anniversary of Jamestown.
