Cottons, netting, "Sliver" thread, hand-painted cotton batting.
Machine appliqued and quilted.
This piece is about layers and texture. Yellow netting "glows" forth from
the center of the squares. I painted "Quilters Dream" cotton batting to use
for another layer; I liked the way it showed texture when not saturated with
paint but just quickly brushed. (People who have seen this piece don't
realize it is batting until they look at it closely.) The batting is sewn
down only by the quilting lines around the squares, and edges left
free. Layers of yellow netting are under the painted batting, also with
edges left free.
