Quilt for Moriya, Japan
43 by 32 inches Cotton fabrics and brocade, cotton batting Machine pieced and quilted

This quilt was commissioned by the city of Greeley, Colorado to present to their sister city of Moriya, Japan. The Public Art Coordinator for Greeley saw the quilt (at the bottom of this page) on my web site at a fortuitous time! Many of the fabrics in the Japanese girl block are from Japan, some from Rieko's mother.

The Japanese girl is a commercial pattern, "Myomi" by Amy Myoraku. The American girl is my variation. The flags are removable. The bottom ends fit into a pocket in the girls' dresses.

This is the label on the back of the quilt. I fused and then satin stitched versions of each city's official logo.

Rieko and Ellie
Cotton fabrics, polyester batting Machine pieced, hand quilted 35 by 26 inches

This is my first version. The two girls, who were best friends before Rieko's family returned to Japan, are reaching out to each other. The background, my original setting, represents old traditions (the fabric is a traditional Japanese wave design) and new ways (the diagonal pink stripes).
