An identification card of reef fishes was the inspiration for this quilt. I love to do "thread painting" and used that technique extensively on the fish; each is a solid satin or lamé with details added with various colors of thread. The schools of fish are metallic foil. The chiffon burn-out background fabric is intended to add light to the whole quilt. It was too green so I brushed blue fabric paint over it and then glitter. Only the panels with fish have backing and batting; the chiffon is not backed. The title refers to the die-offs of coral reefs around the world due to global warming and pollution. They are an important part of the ocean environment but are missing from this quilt.
