Oatlands: Front Yard
Cotton fabrics, cotton batting Machine pieced, appliquéd and quilted, thread painting, fabric ink pen 21 x 25 inches

This is the view from the front porch of Oatlands, an old historic home south of Leesburg, Virginia. The Blue Ridge is visible between the trees.

I enjoyed sewing all the trees on this piece. In particular, I was pleased by how the large magnolia tree on the right turned out. I was able to get a good effect of "volume" of the tree by choosing threads of various tones and hues of green, and sewing a few branches amid the boughs. A black Pigma pen was used to make the shadow under the tree.
